Discover SailingAge: 7 -12 years old
This class primarily uses Sail Cube sailboats. |
Discover Sailing, or "Disco" for short, is designed for beginners and those with limited on-the-water experience. Children learn the fundamentals of sailing, including rigging, launching, and basic boat handling, through hands-on instruction supported by games and activities on and off the water. The program emphasizes fun and safety while encouraging teamwork and friendship. Campers build confidence on the water and develop skills that carry into everyday life.
Most campers are ready to move on to Seasoned Sailing after one session of Disco. Each class typically sails six dinghy Sail Cubes, either solo or with a partner, with guidance from an instructor in a safety boat. During Summer Camp, the Discover Sailors are split into three separate groups based on age. |
Seasoned SailingAge: 8 -12 years old
This camp primarily uses Sail Cube sailboats. |
Seasoned Sailing is designed for returning or intermediate sailors who have already mastered the basics. This program begins with a refresher of the skills covered in Discover Sailing and then introduces new, exciting skills such as overboard recovery and sailing backwards. Sailors learn to steer using their body weight and sails, control speed and heel, and navigate a course—all while deepening their understanding of wind, weather, and water safety. Seasoned Sailors also have the opportunity to venture out on full-day adventure sails.
Seasoned Sailing combines time on the water with shore-side STEM activities, making learning both interactive and fun. Sailors gain confidence and pride as their skills grow, moving toward greater independence on the water. During Summer Camp, the Seasoned Sailors are typically split into two separate groups based on age and experience. |
Feva SailingAge: 11-14 years old
This camp primarily uses RS Feva sailboats. |
Ready for a bigger, faster, more agile boat? Feva Sailing is the next step after Seasoned Sailing, perfect for middle schoolers and younger high schoolers ready to take on the RS Feva with its main and jib. It bridges the gap between the Cube and CFJ, introducing exciting new skills like using telltales, jib handling, and teamwork.
Every session is tailored to your experience, so whether you’re just moving up from the Cube or already confident on the water, each day is full of learning, adventure, and fun. Feva sailors go on all-day adventure sails to destinations like Treasure Island and India Basin, gaining hands-on experience, independence, and unforgettable memories. Completing Feva Sailing prepares sailors for Zippy Camp and beyond—building confidence, skills, and a lifelong love of sailing. |
Teen Sailing (For ALL Levels)
|
Age: 13-16 years old
This camp primarily uses Club Flying Junior (CFJ) sailboats. |
This camp is for all teens, from beginners to experienced sailors. Everyone gets involved—experienced sailors guide and help teach beginners, while all participants navigate, sail, and explore. Most sailing happens in Club Flying Junior (CFJ) sailboats, with two or three teens per boat and an instructor nearby in a safety boat to teach and support.
Days are filled with adventure on the SF Bay, from learning to handle boats and read the wind to sailing to exciting destinations. It’s physically challenging, rewarding, and exhilarating—a true taste of freedom on the water. Instructors support skill-building, advanced sailing, destination sails, and hands-on STEM activities, while encouraging teens to take ownership, work as a team, and form lasting friendships. Teen Sailing is about growth, adventure, and discovering the thrill of the Bay. |
ZIPPY Teen SailingAge: 14 - 17 years old
This camp primarily uses Club Flying Junior (CFJ), Laser, & 420 sailboats. |
